About Dave Wilson
Dave is a dedicated and compassionate individual who has spent his life serving others. He joined the Dallas Police Department in April 1989, where he faithfully served the community for nearly 30 years until his retirement in November 2018. During his career, Dave became known for his commitment to public safety and his daily bike rides around White Rock Lake, which not only kept him physically fit but also connected him with the people he protected.
Dave has been married for 27 years and is the proud father of five children. His family continues to grow, with nine grandchildren and a tenth on the way, due on August 30, 2024. Beyond his professional life, Dave has always enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly camping trips, which have created cherished memories.
In February 2018, Dave’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a rare and irreversible lung disease characterized by the thickening and stiffening of lung tissue. Despite the challenges posed by this progressive and ultimately fatal condition, Dave has remained remarkably healthy, largely due to his years of physical activity and cycling as a police officer. His resilience and determination have enabled him to outlive many others diagnosed with IPF.
On July 11, 2024, Dave was approved for a bilateral lung transplant, a critical step in his ongoing battle with the disease. His journey is a testament to his strength, perseverance, and the support of his loving family. Dave’s story is one of courage in the face of adversity, and his legacy of service continues to inspire all who know him.
